Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
This was the very first church to be built in Murrieta way back in 1887. The question at the time was whether to build the church or the school first...the decision was to build the school first in 1886, which doubled as the church, and then the church. Through the years, this church has been a mainstay in focusing on God and our relationship with him.
What is your primary product or service?
The Mission of the church is "Loving God, Loving Others, and Serving People. You will find this mission statement being carried out in everything we do...through Bible Studies, small groups, and Mission projects. We are well known for our Food Pantry which has been serving the people in need in the area since since 1999. The pantry not only provides packaged food to some 150-200 families a week, but also provides other services as well.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
As a connectional member of the United Methodist Church, our founding fathers in Murrieta were significant community leaders. You will see many of their names on schools in the area.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We like to think of ourselves as a more traditional church with a good blend of young and mature families. I think our service to the community and world differentiates us...our people are engaged in mission work around the world as well as in our community. Our church as been known for projects we call "Great Day of Service" where we engage the community and our own people in projects such as the Wildomar Parks renewal project in 2013.Our misson work also includes a permanent project outside Mexicali where sponsor a medical clinic, a dental clinic, an apprentice program for teens, a computer lab and other services.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
The United Methodist Church has 8 churches in this immediate area, and thousands around the world. Locally, besides Murrieta, we have churches in Lake Elsinore, Sun City, Temecula, Winchester, San Jacinto, Fallbrook, and Hemet. This group of churches is called a Mission Area and work together on projects like the Great Day of Service.
