Riverside Live Steamers have been providing free train rides in Hunter Park since 1964. One eighth size trains are operated 10:00 a.m., until 3:00 p.m, every second and fourth Sundays of the Month. There is no charge, but donations gladly accepted. The railroad is operated and maintained 100% by members labor and annual dues.
Joe Hunter, a prominent Riverside industrialist, built the original loop of track in 1960. Mr. Hunter wanted future generations to know what a steam railroad locomotive looked like, sounded like and smelled like.
On his death, the land and the original loop of track was given to the City of Riverside. The railroad has been greatly enlarged since then through the hard labors of the Riverside Live Steamers all-volunteer membership, their dues and donations. No City funds are involved in maintaining the railroad, the locomotives and cars.
Please come by on the second or fourth Sundays.
